Got Any Dead Dreams?

Do you have any dreams and plans that you have written off and allowed to die? Do you have things you always hoped to accomplish, but it now looks like you never will? Are there things your heart still gets excited about, but it seems that all hope is gone that they could ever happen?

If so, I have some good news for you.  Jesus IS the resurrection and the life. God raises the dead and calls those things that be not as though they were.  If your dream is dead, God can resurrect it!

But first youíre going to have to settle something about God in your mind. One of these two statements about God is true and the other is a lie, and youíd better know which is which.

1. God has a plan for your life, and you can do it through Christ who strengthens you with the help of the Holy Spirit.  He gives you the desires of your heart when you delight yourself in Him. You can do what you really want to do deep inside.

2. God wants to tease you with a dream like some people dangle a carrot in front of a donkey. You can never live your dream, and the perfect will of God is for you to die frustrated,, unfulfilled, and never having accomplished what you had hoped to do.  God puts desires in your heart and then refuses to give you those desires because He isnít very nice when it comes to such things.  He wants you to work in drudgery to survive at a job that has nothing to do with what you really want out of life and enjoy doing.

Which do you believe?  If you believe the lie, you may well die never having really lived the kind of abundant life Jesus paid for you to have.

Jesus can resurrect your dream!  Too many Christians believe in a Rolling Stone instead of a rolled-away stone because theyíve convinced themselves, ďYou canít always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need.Ē  Itís one thing for Mick Jagger to say it, but itís really a tragedy when Christians make comments like that. Did Jesus come to give you abundant life or didnít He? Weíve seen in a previous column that ďabundantĒ in the Greek refers to something over the top, superfluous, more than enough, excessive!  Are you living that life now? If not, there is more of that life available to you through Jesus!

Is YOUR idea of abundant, excessive, more-than-enough life wallowing from week to week, paycheck to paycheck, problem to problem, never seeming to keep your head above water more than a few days at a time?  If YOUR idea of abundant life never doing the things you most enjoy?  If thatís not your idea of abundant life, what makes you think that itís Godís idea of abundant life?

If it looks like your dreams are dead, commit them to Jesus. He IS the resurrection and He has experience raising the dead. Stop leaning to your own understanding when itís telling you that your dream is doomed and start looking at the Author and Finisher of your faith.

And above all, NEVER QUIT! You havenít lost as long as youíre still in the game!
